The Derry Youth Ministry Online Programme now includes a Youth Alpha Programme.
Alpha is a film series that explores questions of faith and important life questions.
We have 50 young people signed up for the programme and will run the programme weekly until the end of July. The youth department are delighted that young people from all around the diocese can come together online and talk about difficult questions and how they are feeling during lockdown.
Evie who is from Derry City and is participating in the Pope John Paul II Award this year had this to say about her experience doing the Youth Alpha Programme.
‘The Alpha Programme is fantastic because it is a non-judgemental environment where everyone’s opinions are respected and taken into consideration, it also allows an insight into other peoples’ views. The programme is a fun, friendly place also where all the students and leaders can talk about how their week has been, as well as discuss anything exciting that has happened to them that week. I have found lockdown a great opportunity, as there is so much time to be productive and I have been able to focus on things that I would not have necessarily had the time to do pre-lockdown.’
Alpha is a great way to start some of the more difficult conversations, the programme allows leaders to really engage with young people and see how they are feeling but also answer questions about Jesus.
If any parish would like help running an Alpha programme or just would like to find out more information on the programme please email lizzie.rea@derrydiocese.org or yvonne.rooney@derrydiocese.org.
