Act of Spiritual Communion

Published: April 7, 2020

Spiritual Communion can occur when a person wishes to receive Holy Communion but is prevented from doing so for any of a number of reasons. Unble to attend Mass during the coronavirus restrictions is one example.

An act of Spiritual Communion is asking the Lord to come to you as you cannot be at Mass to receive Him.

Suggested prayer

There is no official format for making a Spiritual Communion. But this is a suggested prayer that may help those who wish to receive the Lord sacramentally spiritually especially at this time.

“My Jesus, I believe that you
desire to make your home
within me and that you are
present in the Most Holy
Sacrament of the altar. I love
you above all things, and I
desire to receive you in my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment
receive you sacramentally,
come spiritually into my heart. I
embrace your love as if you
were already there, and I unite
myself wholly to you. Never
permit me to be separated
from you. Amen.”
