Hello, my name is Noah and I am a year 7 pupil of Saint Eugene’s Primary School. I will be making my Confirmation this Friday, the 11th of February, at 5pm.
We have been preparing for our Confirmation since September 2021. We have been filling in our “Filled with joy” work books. We also took part in a week long online preparation from 10th-14th January 2021. This was really enjoyable and each day we had different people join with Mary and Therese to prepare us further, for Confirmation. Our parents also had a preparation night online and we had a service of light ceremony.
Confirmation is about our parents handing over the gift of faith and the responsibility of our faith to us. I was quite nervous at first when hearing about this responsibility and also first hearing of the Holy Spirit. In the bible the Holy spirit is represented by flames, wind and a dove. The apostles had tongues of fire rest on each of their heads on Pentecost Day. They were then able to speak foreign languages! The dove also appears in the bible as Jesus is baptised.
When we first heard about this I was a bit afraid. I now understand that this will not happen on the day of my Confirmation but I will receive the gifts of Understanding, Wisdom, Knowledge, Courage, Right Judgement, Reverence and Wonder and Awe in God’s presence.
I also understand that by accepting these gifts openly I will see the benefits in my life filled with Love, Joy, Kindness, Goodness, Peace, Patience, Gentleness, Self-Control and Faithfulness.
I believe Confirmation will help me become closer to God. I won’t have to depend on my parents to take me to Mass anymore. The sacrament will help me live out God’s plan for me by making me more responsible. I hope to live my life to the full, by following God’s footsteps and asking him to help me make good decisions throughout my life.
Come Holy Spirit.
