John Vianney: Patron Saint of Priests

John Vianney: Patron Saint of PriestsJohn Vianney was born in the 18th century during the time of the French Revolution. His family were very religious and despite facing danger, they continued to practice their faith.  John grew up seeing and believing that priests were heroes.  He joined his heroes as a priest August 12, 1815 in the Couvent des Minimes de Grenoble. His first Mass was celebrated the next day and he was appointed assistant to Balley in Écully.  He was a noted preacher, and a celebrated confessor: and sometimes  he spent up to eighteen hours a day in the confessional!  He is often referred to as the “Curé d’Ars” (i.e. the parish priest of Ars), internationally known for his priestly and pastoral work in his parish in Ars, France.
