On Wednesday 20th October we held our annual In-Service Morning for Primary and National Schools in the Diocese of Derry, via ZOOM. The morning provided opportunities for prayer, reflection, discussion and input on resources, methodologies, programmes and important dates for schools in the coming year.
Fr Paul Farren, Director, Derry Diocesan Catechetical Centre, gave a talk on The Catholic School in the Secular World and teachers had an opportunity to meet in break-out rooms and discuss what implications there were for them in their own school communities at the current time.
We were delighted to be joined by Karen Kiefer, author of Drawing God and Director, The Church in the 21st Century Centre, Boston College. Karen spoke about the upcoming World Drawing God Day on the 3rd November and shared ways in which schools and parishes could engage with it. Karen also spoke about how Faith Feeds for Educators could be used for spiritual development of teachers. The Catechetical Centre is hosting Faith Feeds for Educators for schools in the Diocese of Derry, beginning Tuesday 9th November at 3.30pm, via ZOOM.
Laura Rio-Fernandez, Education Officer from Trocaire, shared the very creative programmes and competitions they have to support schools in their work on social justice and climate justice.
