Opening of The New School Year: Prayer Liturgy for the Classroom

Published: August 26, 2020 Category: Adult Faith Resources, Post-primary School Resources, Youth Resources

This Liturgy could be used for students in a Form Class/Religious Education class. It is suitable for all age groups. It has been designed to support restrictions due to Covid. The Liturgy is also available on PowerPoint thus facilitating students who may be at home and wish to access the prayer time with their class/or indeed a teacher who prefers to make use of the whiteboard. (the PowerPoint is available on request from the Catechetical Centre- (028) 71264087)

A Sacred Space could be set up in the classroom and kept in place for the year – changes in the space would be in accordance with the Liturgical Year. Items such as bible, statue, coloured cloth, rosary beads could be placed in the Sacred Space. The presence of a Sacred Space should ensure adherence to school/class Covid regulations.

The box of envelopes holding student ‘Hopes’ for the year, could be placed in the Sacred Space when the students are next in the classroom. In the long term, the box could be held by the teacher in a safe place until the end of the year. They would then be returned to the students. opening-of-the-new-school-year-prayer-liturgy-for-the-classroom
