Frances of Rome

Published: March 6, 2023

Frances of Rome is an Italian saint who was a wife, mother, mystic, organiser of charity initiatives and a Benedictine oblate who founded a religious order of oblates, who share a religious life without religious vows. In 1925 Pope Pius X declared her the patron saint of automobile drivers because of a legend that an angel used to light the road before her with a lantern when she travelled, keeping her safe from hazards.
