Bernard of Clairvaux

Published: August 20, 2021

Bernard of Clairvaux was a man of great holiness and wisdom.  He helped spread the popularity of the Cistercian order, a religious group that believed in a simple and disciplined lifestyle.  He loved to debate the great issues of the  day and he wrote widely on church matters. Bernard was declared a doctor of the church in 1830 and in 1953 he became a Doctor of the Church in an encyclical of Pope Pius XII.
