Published: June 3, 2020

On 4th June 2020 Bishop McKeown celebrated the Annual Fan the Flame Mass for Year 7/6th Class pupils throughout the Diocese.

Fan the Flame Mass from St Eugene’s Cathedral

The Mass can be viewed below. At the start of thee broadcast there is a special message from Pope John Paul II Award participants to all those due to attend the Mass.

Faughanvale Primary School – He’s Got the Whole World in his Hands!

Normally this Mass would be held in Celtic Park, a very colourful celebration, marking the fact that the children have received the sacrament of Confirmation and are preparing to move to the next stage of their education. They would have been supported there by their schools, youth ushers and adult volunteers, priests and post primary representatives.

Date: Thurday, 4th June 2020
Time: 10:00am
Broadcast: Saint Eugene’s Cathedral

This year is very different as so many of them have not yet received the sacrament of Confirmation and they can’t gather in Celtic Park. These resources will help the children celebrate this special Mass from their homes and to know that they are very special to everyone in this diocese.

Ideas for Celebrating Fan the Flame Mass at Home

This is an overview of ways in which the children can prepare to celebrate Fan the Flame Mass at home-creating T-Shirts based on the Gospel stories of the Beatitudes, creating a sensory Bottle of the Beatitudes, baking a cake, singing along with the hymns, praying quietly and reflecting on their time at primary school.

Reflection Journals

These will help the children reflect on their time at Primary/National School and be aware of God’s presence in their experiences and in the people they have shared this time with. There are three Reflection Journals for the children to choose from-Journal 1 and 2 are written journals. Journal 2 is an option with less words and there is also an idea for creating a Sensory Bottle Journal, to capture their memories.
