The Catechetical Centre supports parishes, families and schools in the preparation of children receiving the sacraments of:
First Reconciliation (Confession);
First Holy Communion; and
Confirmation.
This year, mindful of the current restrictions, the Catechetical Centre Sacramental Team have looked at ways to provide Sacramental Talks evenings for parents and families in a different way.
An evening talk on the Sacraments for Parents
The Sacramental Talks Team can deliver an evening of Sacramental preparation for families through a parish webcam or the Catechetical Centre webcam. Prior to the talk a pack will be sent home via the schools/parish to each family. The pack will contain a booklet for families and activities for the children.
Format of the evening talk
• Time of prayer for children and parents together
• Children work on activity
• Presentation for parents using the Sacramental Preparation Books for families:
Friends of Jesus for the sacraments of First Reconciliation; and
First Holy Communion and Disciples of Jesus for the sacrament of Confirmation.
Both books follow the four main sections of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, placing the sacraments in the context of the child’s and family’s overall faith journey. They explain each sacrament, provide activities for families to complete together with an emphasis on prayer as they deepen their relationship with God.
The books acknowledge that, as part of the Christian community, there is plenty of support for families and that parishes, diocese and schools are delighted to partner with them.
